Utah Water Savers Approved

Grass Removal That Qualifies for Utah's Rebate Program

Removing your lawn is the fastest way to qualify for Utah's Water Savers rebate — up to $3 per square foot for replacing qualifying irrigated turf with water-wise landscaping. On a typical 1,000 sq ft front yard, that's $3,000 back in your pocket.

Lundberg Landscape handles the full grass removal process: sod stripping, debris hauling, grading, and site preparation for whatever comes next — zeroscaping, gravel install, new plants, or bare soil ready for your own project. We document the removal correctly so your rebate application is as strong as possible.

We also remove trees, stumps, and overgrown shrubs in combination with lawn removal — so you get one crew, one visit, and a site that's ready for the next phase.

What's Included in a Grass Removal Project

Every grass removal project follows a clean, documented process designed to qualify for the rebate and leave the site ready for the next phase:

📋

Rebate Pre-Approval

We guide you through the Utah Water Savers pre-approval process before any removal begins — this step is required and must be completed first. We help you complete the application, submit the required before-photos, and confirm eligibility for your specific address.

🌱

Sod Strip & Removal

We strip your turf to a consistent depth using commercial sod cutters, removing the full root layer. Partial removal leaves grass roots that continue to compete with whatever replaces it — we cut clean. All sod is loaded and hauled off-site promptly.

🏔️

Grading & Leveling

After sod removal, the site is graded to ensure proper drainage — water should flow away from your foundation, not pool in your new rock bed. Proper grading is especially important in Sandy, Draper, and Cottonwood Heights where clay soil holds water and creates drainage problems when levels change.

📸

Documentation

We photograph the completed removal site with measurements for your rebate post-installation submission. The rebate process requires both before and after documentation — we ensure you have what the water district needs to process your payment.

🌳

Tree & Stump Removal

We remove trees and shrubs in the removal zone — including stump grinding to below grade. Existing roots left in place interfere with rock and gravel installs and can heave weed barriers over time. Full removal sets the next phase up for a clean, lasting result.

🏁

Site Ready for Next Phase

After removal and grading, your site is ready for zeroscaping, gravel install, new sod, or whatever you've planned. If Lundberg Landscape is handling the next phase as well, we sequence the work seamlessly — no waiting for a second contractor.

What Type of Grass Qualifies for the Utah Rebate?

The Utah Water Savers program pays rebates for removing qualifying irrigated turf — specifically, high-water cool-season grasses that require regular irrigation throughout the growing season. This includes:

  • ✅ Kentucky bluegrass (the most common Utah lawn grass)
  • ✅ Tall fescue
  • ✅ Perennial ryegrass
  • ✅ Bentgrass
  • ✅ Mixed cool-season turf blends

Artificial turf, natural areas, vegetable gardens, and existing drought-tolerant plantings do not qualify. The replacement must cover at least 80% of the removed area with approved water-wise materials — rock, gravel, mulch, or qualifying plants.

Not sure if your grass qualifies? Call us at 801.450.0198 and Russ will tell you straight.

What Does Grass Removal Cost?

Pricing depends on the size of the area, existing sod thickness, site access, and whether grading is needed. Projects bundled with a full rock or zeroscaping install are typically more cost-effective than standalone removal alone.

We provide itemized quotes that break out removal, grading, materials, and labor so you know exactly what each part of the project costs before we start. Call or text Russ for a free quote — most are returned same day.
